CONFESSION

"Very well, I'll admit it. I killed Black. That greedy little doublecrosser was about to tell all about our secrets. Vivienne and I had been plotting to make sure that Elizabeth made Vivienne heir to Arlington Grange again - and then Black went and told Elizabeth that we were having an affair! Vivienne and I did our best to tell her that he was lying - but we needed him out of the way for our plan to succeed."

"At first, I thought that if I got rid of the book, then that would be enough. But when Elizabeth made me see that I would never find it - I realised that I had to get rid of Black altogether."

"But to kill Black - I needed a weapon. Elizabeth had seen me with the lead piping (and so had Plum) so I needed something else. I saw Elizabeth hide the dagger in her pocket, so I took a chance. I took the dagger from her pocket while I kissed her (an easy task for an ex-SAS officer) and I hoped that she would think that she had just dropped it in the study."

"Then I went in search of Black. It didn't take me long. I went to the Billiard Room in case Elizabeth was still watching me; and guess who I found in there? None other than Dr. David Black himself. I confronted him about the book - but he wouldn't back down - he was still going to publish it! So I stopped him - with the dagger!"

"I was about to leave the Billiard Room, when I saw Plum and Green standing in the doorway of the Ballroom, telling Vivienne that they were going to the Billiard Room! They would spot me leaving if I went out that way and I also heard someone making a racket in the direction of the Hall - so I had to go back into the room. I knew that I needed time to replace the dagger in the study, and that Elizabeth new that I had gone to the Billiard Room. If they found the body there then it wouldn't take long to work out that I had done it! So I dragged Black's body out of the side door and into the Library."

"From there, I saw Mrs. White and Elizabeth come out of the Hall and go into the Lounge. I quickly made my move. I threw Black's body into the cellar, returned the dagger to the study and then went to the Billiard Room to try to obtain an alibi."

"But I made a couple of mistakes that you must have spotted. I didn't know that Black had left the last glass of Merlot in the Billiard Room; I told you that I had gone to the Hall, Dining Room and Kitchen - risking that no-one was in those rooms when I should have been there. If you worked out that the Dagger had gone missing, then you would have realised that I was the only one who could have taken it from Elizabeth. I also have a feeling that you must have found another object that pointed to where I had taken Black's body."

"Never-the-less, I still think I did a good job of decieving you. And it was worth it to get rid of the man who could ruin the life of the woman I love."
