Elizabeth is an old and dear friend of mine, we are extremely close and I know Gold had upset her terribly. I was going to try and get him out of the house. But I wouldn’t stoop to murder.

Absolutely not. Vivienne is very sweet and I have a deep affection for her. I realise she was spurned and used by that odious creep, but she did not incite me to dispose of Gold.

No. I would never waste my money on such a dead loss.

I was going to go in search of Gold and teach him a bit of a lesson. I stopped in the Billiard Room to calm myself down and after several frames, I went to find Elizabeth and had a drink with her in the Study.

I saw her very briefly as she passed the door to the Billiard Room, but I didn’t speak to her.

I left it in the Billiard Room.

Only in the amount of time I spent with him, loving him. There was no financial backing on my part. Apparently he had enough money from various sources. I never asked him about it.

We got extremely close. We were lovers. In fact, we got quite intimate whilst he was in the Grange before his death.

I had a vague idea what he’d done to my step-mother’s painting which was not at my behest, I’d like to add. But I had no idea he was going to play such a nasty trick on me or the Professor.

Apart from the few occasions I left the study before the row, it remained with me all the time.

I was in the Conservatory. I opened a few of the windows and took pot-shots outside to calm myself down because Sebastian had annoyed me so much.

I think he might have been in the Billiard Room as I passed by to calm myself down, but I didn’t speak to him at all.

That horrible little man had been squeezing money out of me for the best part of a year before the events that happened here.

To be accused of plagiarism, to even fall under suspicion of doing something that serious, can spell the end of a career. It is something I did not want to deal with. As Gold said, mud sticks. Even though I was cleared of any charges, some people will always think I am guilty. And I do not want that.

Absolutely none. I had been questioned about plagiarism, but was cleared of all suspicion. Gold took this and twisted it into his fabric of lies.

Absolutely not! I would not waste what money I have on something as spectacularly stupid as that.

I took the secret passageway from the Kitchen to the Study and tried to find Gold. I was planning to make him pay for that horrible painting, but luckily for me and him, he was not there.

Yes. I was going to use it to threaten Gold and tell him to stop blackmailing me, but I didn’t find him in the Study, so I left it in there.

I was coerced into it by my step-daughter, Vivienne. I would like it to go on record that I had certain misgivings about it.

Absolutely not! Despite Vivienne’s best attempts to get me to sign money over, I refused.

I was appalled. Upset. Sickened by it. After all the generosity I’d shown him by letting him disrupt my house in such a way, it was a terrible way to repay me.

Well, Mike and I are extremely close. I presume he meant he would see what he could do to get Sebastian Gold out of my house and away from Vivienne. That’s all.

I admit I exacted my own little revenge on Gold by destroying several of the pictures in the Ballroom, but I didn’t touch the ones in the Lounge. When Blanche came in and told me about that, I was shocked.

I ran from the room very upset and went to my Study to calm down and have a few drinks. I went to see Gold - we argued breifly and I threaten him with a nearby dagger. I managed to resist temptation though and left with the dagger and headed for the Ballroom.

It was a letter from the parish council. We were due a visit. They were sending someone down in a few weeks. It had me concerned. It always does.

I’m afraid I misappropriated a little of the parish funds, but was guaranteed a return. Clearly not now.

I was going to threaten Gold with it, make him give me back the money he owes. Thankfully, Mrs White came in and stopped me.

I went first of all to the Lounge and then the Ballroom to have a look at Gold’s paintings. I thought if I was investing in him, I might as well see the work. I wasn’t impressed but they were better than I thought they’d be.

What an extraordinary question! I went to the Library looking for Gold. As we talked, I accidentally touched one of his canvasses in progress. I was wiping my hands of the paint as I walked in.

Yes, she came out of the Library as I went in.

Yes. I forgot I had it with me and left it in the Lounge.

Oh, not too long. A few months. Nothing much, just little ornaments and such like.

She had mentioned it a few times, but I don’t think she suspected me. We have a lot of functions here at the Grange which means I have to have a bit of help; so I get some girls from the village in to lend a hand. I think she might have thought it was one of them.

I saw Miss Vivienne and that terrible Sebastian Gold together... in a clinch... kissing and what-not. I was so shocked I dropped the bits and pieces and had to go for a drink.

You don’t think I had time to stop and look at those, do you? I had preparations to make for dinner and the functions that evening. I had things to cook and such like.

Not really. I don’t know much about art. I was told he was a dead cert to invest in, so I did. I don’t really care much for art anyway. Just the money.

No. I’d prefer to confess everything to Mrs Peacock rather than have her find out from im.
