CONFESSION

"Yes, it was me... I killed David... The louse! He actually thought I would just stand by and let him wreck everything in my life! Everything I’ve worked for! My money, my stature, the esteem I have earned... How could I let him ruin it all? I had no idea the story he wanted to have published had anything to do with me... “Opulent Widow Now Bankrupt!” is what the documents said in his study... I can just see it now all over the newsstands... My reputation would be destroyed...

"Once he told us about the legend of the Standing Eclipse, I started to get worried. Once I realized David had bought Vivienne that ostentatious vehicle and given Blanche a loan as well, I knew what he was up to. My fears were confirmed. I had nowhere near enough money to pay back what he had loaned me... or at least not right then, anyway. Things were getting better, soon I would have been back on my own two feet again, and been able to pay him back the loan for the house payment. I tried to explain all of this to him but he just wouldn’t listen. He was set on destroying me and everyone else...

"I went to the Study after taking one of the candlesticks from the Dining Room... I don’t know what I thought I would do with it... threaten him if he didn’t listen... Anyway, I thought if I could just find the documentation of the transaction or anything else relating to me I could simply destroy it and then he would have no evidence... I soon realized my fantasies were not plausible... There was no escaping his vile plans...

"After dinner I knew what I had to do. I quickly excused myself right after David left the Dining Room. I saw him go to the Conservatory and a plan to rid myself of him finally formulated in my head.

"I remembered that I had left Vivienne’s nail file in the Conservatory so I went to the Lounge and waited a few seconds. After no one joined me, I rushed through the secret passageway to the Conservatory. I needed to do things quickly in case anyone else decided to go to either of the two rooms. He pretended to be unaware of my presence... He would not even turn to face me... He was looking at the stars... I picked up the nail file, which I had dropped on the floor earlier that day and approached him... I am sure he had no idea what I was about to do...

"I then dragged his body back through the secret passageway to the Lounge. The nail file was still embedded in his neck. I waited to see if anyone was there. To my luck no one was. I took the nail file and tried to wipe all the blood off of it with my handkerchief. I then put it back where Vivienne had set it earlier. I dragged him to the top of the cellar stairs and pushed him down. I ran to the Lounge just in time. I got there just a few seconds before Michael entered.

"David should have never attempted to double cross me... That was his worst and final mistake..."
